Gator Machete Aug 09, 2008 I've been looking for a good machete for some time. I'm also a big fan of Gerber products. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be as well made as most of their products. I've found them locally for under $15 and for the price it's worth having for light stuff. My search for a proper machete continues.
Great Tool! Jul 01, 2008 This is an excellnt value for the moeny. This is a very versatile tool. It has come in very handy clearing scrub brush from behind my property.
Gerber machete- NOT up to par Jun 04, 2008 I own and love many Gerber Products. This Machete is not one of them.
The blade bent and cracked on the first swing at some 1/4"-1/2" thick
brush. This Item not worthy of the Gerber name.

Needs Field Test Apr 07, 2008 The Gerber "Gator" appears to be a good machete, but I've not yet had the chance to field test it. The handle is well-designed and comfortable. I like it better than other machete handles I've used because it is soft on the surface and hard as iron underneath. It is also ergonomically friendly; it fits into my hand's natural contours nicely.
I haven't yet decided weather I like the ridge back. I suppose it depends on how much I hurt myself with it this summer. One other minor con for the sawback is that they make drawing and putting away more difficult. On the plus side, it should be excellent for mowing through harder and thicker brush. I feel a little dubious about it's use as an actual saw, but it might work.
I do wish Gerber would post what kind of steel they used so I know I'm not getting suckered with some pansy, high-chromium junk that's better suited for the rims on a Lexus.
The price is excellent; even with shipping, it was only about $25.00. Gerber generally makes quality products, so I am giving this machete the benefit of the doubt for now. I'll write another review in August with the real story.
