Worth every penny Jan 25, 2010 Wonderful GPSr lacking only a really good Basemap. Yes, the Basemap is 100k, but the features are more that of a NatGeo's 500k level State Series Topo with little in the way of topographic detail. Worth Every Penny otherwise, and the map issue is easily resolved by buying maps from Garmin. Suggest the 100k Topo US first, then the 24k Topo if you really need the detail. Radio works fine and the unit displays an error circle in map mode, it even displays circles of proximity alert around waypoints that you've set up that way. you have to download a number of applications from Garmin when you register the unit if you want several of the base functions (Map Installation, waypoint collections, etc.) and I recommend that you do download those Apps.

great gps, mediocre radio Nov 28, 2009 The CX version is the more sensitive GPS receiver from the old one.
Excellent sensitivity. Unlike old one, works indoors in wood structures.
Weather/rain proof.
Great maps/database features. Unique in that two or more RINO's can display each others' location on map.
Lots of accessories.
The Bad:
Mediocre to poor radio compared to Motorola or other full power GMRS.
Shorter range, less sensitive receiver.
Menu driven access to EITHER volume or squelch but not both at same time is tedious.
No external antenna connection for GMRS.

Great Gps Oct 26, 2009 This unit does everything you need. It is very good on battery life. The only thing I don't like is the center button is too small and sensitive making it hard to push it down without moving the cursor of the intended target.
