Great knife Oct 15, 2009 After researching a lot on Amazon I ended buying this knife and I'm really happy with it. The knife opening system with the spring is great and with a little training it work just like an automatic knife (pushing the button). The only comment is that the security lock could be better placed: you cant unlock and open the knife without changing the grip; you need to move the knife in your hand after unlocking it so you can open it.
I'm going to push this a little further with some more heavy work with the knife (and may edit this review later), but so far, I really like the knife, that stays in my pocket ALL the time.
Excellent camping/utility knife Sep 14, 2009 This is the first "man's knife" I have owned. I've had a few multi-tool style knives that I use for camping and fishing, but I decided to get something I could carry regularly for all the random times it would just be handy to have a knife. While there's no doubt this is a very well-made and effective tool, I don't think it's quite appropriate as an everyday carrier. The knife feels heavy and solid--a good sign for any tool. The handle is textured and fits well in my hand. The assisted opening is really slick (and intimidating for onlookers), and it's easy to open and close with one hand (I use my left). Once open, the TiNi blade and locking mechanism are strong and reliable. I would feel confident with this knife in my pocket facing any situation, from stubborn product packaging to a stealthy cougar hunt in the forests of Central America.
I don't carry it every day anymore, though, and it's kind of a shame. The knife is big and heavy. The same qualities that make it an excellent tool become a hindrance at times. I can't just slip it into the pocket of my slacks for a day at work. I know it's there when I walk and when I sit. If I casually flip it open to cut some packing tape or slice an apple, people react like I'm a switchblade-totin' gangster or something.
That said, it is what it was designed for, and that's a great knife, and I got a great price on it from Amazon. If you need a durable utility knife or a multi-purpose cutting tool for any outdoor activity, I would definitely recommend it. Any man in your life would be very glad to receive this as a gift.
Great Knife Jul 06, 2009 SOG makes a quality product, and this is no exception. The handle is comfortable in your hand and the blade looks and cuts well. The assisted spring really gets the blade out quickly. The only thing I don't like about the knife is they put a safety on it. When ever I try to open the knife the safety always seems to be on and it's a pain the unlock it each time. Since I am not going to hand this to small children I can really live without the safety.
Number 2!! Jun 24, 2009 This is my second time I have bought this knife so that goes to say how great of a knife I think it is. I lost the first one and missed have this knife around. I opted to buy the aluminum handle this time since I do use this knife on a daily basis. It is a little heavier than the zytel handle but not a big deal to me. No matter how many knives I own this one will always be in the collection
Excellent knife May 23, 2009 The weight, feel & finish of this knife combine to make it one of my all time favorite folders. The side clip took a bit of tweaking to make it not grip so tightly but now it stays where I put it but comes out easily with one hand.
The blades finish has held up and not scratched as I thought it would and the texture of the handle makes it very secure while using.
It easily opens one handed and positively locks with a click so you know it's not going to fold up on you while you're using it.
It comes very sharp from the factory and I recommend this knife to anyone that needs a good utility pocket or defensive knife.
