Great knife Aug 24, 2010 I own many SOG knives, and have for many years. This knife, like every other does not disappoint. Great design, razor sharp edge, and great balance and feel. SOG knives are a little more expensive, but they last and are well worth the money. When it comes to knives, you get what you pay for and all SOG products earn their keep.
I'd recomend this for the price, but not one of the higher priced colors/blades Aug 07, 2010 For the price of thirty something it is pretty decent, but at the higher price point of the different colored handles and blades I couldn't recommend it. I've owned this knife for a little over a month now, and use it daily from everything from opening letters/packages to camping and survival situations. I'll start with my largest complaint and go from there.
The clip. I really like the height of the opening to help clip onto the thicker blue jeans, but it doesn't have enough grip or has too much in certain situations. The part that holds pressure on your pocket is completely rounded and smooth and can easily slide out of your pocket if doing physical activities especially if wearing thinner pants such as slacks. Although on thicker materials like blue jeans it holds too tight and it hard to remove. A design without a completely rounded friction point with less pressure on the clip would be better all around. I advise you to NOT remove the clip and swap sides. The screw mates to plastic which you cannot tighten enough to eliminate lateral movement, but can easily strip the threads. I would also like the clip to be a bit longer and/or the friction point be moved further down. I'm impartial to the design of the clip attachment. It is nice being deep in your pocket, but it also makes it harder to remove.
The opening lock. What good is a knife with a spring assisted blade if you can't open it quickly with one hand? NONE. This lock will occasionally lock in my pocket rendering my knife useless. It is too easy to accidentally engage, but I like the idea of the lock because...
The spring assist. It is too easy to open. It opens in my pocket and with the blade being so sharp it is hard to close and remove it from your pocket. Also I can open the knife by just holding the handle and moving the knife quickly. It may be considered a gravity knife and may be considered illegal depending on where you live.
The locking mechanism. I use the back of the knife blade occasionally to work stubborn twisted wires apart, and I do not like the play in the lock. I'm waiting for the knife to accidentally close on my fingers. Also it doesn't work very well after getting wet (river water).
I do like:
The blade,
The grips on the blade and lock (They have lots of traction and work very well.),
The weight,
and the handle.
I think I may get a SOG Trident and see if that works any better for me.
Good Knife Jul 23, 2010 The knife is good, but I felt that it was too bulky, and i disliked the spring mechanism, I'm more of a classic non-assisted folder guy.
Great Knife Jul 14, 2010 Very good quality and workmanship. Performs as expected, opens easily. One of my favorite knives.
My new # 1 Knife Jul 03, 2010 I have carryed a knife most every day of my life since I was 13 years old; and this is the best knife for its size I have ever owned. Just for the record I am 34 yrs old
