Great hearing protection Aug 31, 2010 Comfortable enough and effective enough I don't really think about them when I am at the range. They fold up nicely to pack away in the range bag, and are adjustable enough that my wife and I can both use these (we ordered two sets) and set them for our different size heads. My wife can't stand having things on her head, so we wanted something lightweight that wouldn't bother her too much--this does the trick.
Some day we'd like to upgrade to a more expensive electronic set, but for now this inexpensive hearing protection allows us to get out on the range.
Excellent for office environments.. Aug 08, 2010 Oh my god.. what a relief.. thanks to cubicle lives, Many of us have interesting office environments.. Colleagues that slurp their coffee, talking on phone in a loud voice, etc etc..
This product was a welcome relief. I am not a big fan of listening to music at work and most of the products out there are related to ear phones. Finally, I stumbled on this item and decided to try it out.
This does not completely block the noise, but it does reduce the noise to a large extent.
QUIET time in the office..
Peltor Shotgunner Hearing Protector Jul 25, 2010 I ordered 2 of these hearing protectors and was very supprised at how small they folded up. They were easy to adjust for each shooter and they did a great job blocking out the report of all the guns fired. Can't beat the price for a great protector...
Great design - Very effective. Jul 16, 2010 When I first opened the package I thought they had sent the wrong size. They couldn't be that small could they? Maybe they sent a child size by mistake? Quickly found that they are simply well designed and fold up nicely when not in use. I suffer from tinnitus and am picky about ear protection when using power tools, etc. These do a great job and are very comfortable to wear.
One trait for another Jun 11, 2010 These hearing protectors are designed more for sport shooting applications, as the Shotgunner name implies. They are meant to be slim enough to facilitate sport shooting, while providing crucial hearing protection. All at a very affordable price that ranges around $20.
Do note that these are meant to protect against highly concussive/impulse noises such as the impact of a hammer, the blast of a firearm, etc. They still allow other sound frequencies (especially in the voice range) to be fairly audible. These are not to be confused with privacy ear muffs that are designed to reduce everyday noise (voice conversations, music, cars, nagging significant others, etc).
Of course this design goal and price has it's compromises. In order to attain the slim sizing and target price, sacrifices in hearing protection and comfort had to be made.
As with any other over-ear hearing protection, your ears will get hot. There's little that can be done about that other than to add miniaturized air-conditioning (too expensive), add ventilation orifices (sacrificing more hearing protection), or use less heat-insulating materials (sacrificing affordability and/or protection).
It should also be noted that these aren't very rugged, so don't toss them around or anything silly. They aren't so fragile that you need to baby them, but don't expose them to needless abuse.
Bottomline:
-Affordable
-Slim, lightweight, less obstructive
-Acceptable hearing protection
-Not very rugged
-Minimal comfort
Recommended:
For more comfort, slightly better protection, and more ruggedness (but very slightly bigger) I recommend the Peltor H6 A/V Optime (also known as the Optime 95). I've had mine for four years now, which was a hand-me-down and only now am I searching for a replacement... likely the same model. Even better is that as of this writing the H6 A/V Optime is cheaper with an Amazon list price of $15 compared to the Amazon list price of the Shotgunners for $20.
